Kline Innovation exhaust system + IPD - install + dyno + pics
Hi forum,
Car is a 2004 Porsche 911 C4S Cabriolet, 74.000 miles / 119.000 kms.
I am from Lisbon, Portugal.
All the work has been performed at my friend's shop called AutoPamplona by their team + me.
9 hour job.
We started early morning by lifting the car and removing the cardan shaft.
Did this to dyno the car stock in 2WD.
Dyno is a DYNO DYNAMICS 450DS AWD Chassis Dynamometer, http://www.dyno.com.au/.
Cars on this particular dyno have sistematically lower measured hp/torque outputs relative to other dynos in Lisbon, such as Rotronics or MAHA.
Did 4 dynos in stock setup, best results were 299.2 PS & 335 Nm.
Was happy with stock output because just last week, 2x 996 3.4L had outputs between 260-275 PS on this dyno.
After stock setup dyno, we did:
* filter + oil change to Motul 300V POWER 5W40
* magnetic oil drain plug
* gearbox oil change to Motul Gear FF Competition 75W140
* throttle body clean up
* Aluminum Intake Plenum (IPD) install
* BMC air filter
* HHR removal from airbox + silicon hose from airbox to throttle body
* Kline Innovation 200 cell kat system (all new gaskets, clamps, bolts & nuts)
Then drove the car just for 3 miles around the shop.
Did another 4 dynos (still in 2WD) with the following results:
* max power 311,9 PS (+12,7 PS)
* max torque 367 Nm (+32 Nm)
* gain of 40 PS @ aprox. 6.250 rpm!!!
Probably, if I had driven the car for 60 miles, the ECU would have "learned" the improved air intake & exhaust flow and would have higher max power/max torque results. But it was getting late and still needed to put the cardan shaft back in and clean everything up...
Next plan is to get EVOMs ECU software through Regal (UK) and improve the results.
It's a different beast now!
Exhaust sounds fantastic!!! And the upgrade in power between 4.000 - 7.000 rpm is really impressive!!!

Kline Innovation exhaust system install
Let me just say that I am very impressed overall with this system.
I ordered the system through Felix (member of this forum).
Ordering process was very easy, did everything by e-mail.
System was delivered very well packaged (maybe even too well... took aprox. 30 mins just to get all the bubble wrap and tape out...), complete with stainless brackets + bolts + nuts.
Everything on this system fitted perfectly. Fit and finish is excellent.
I really think this is the best quality/sound/performance exhaust system for the 996, specially at this price range.
Heard more than 50 911 exhaust sound videos on youtube before deciding what to order. Even did a youtube list at http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...-BcI_Vh8z6WHFF
The shop where I did the work, they are Miltek exhaust dealers and they were also very impressed.
Sound is exotic! Love it! When it gets to 4.000 rpm is fantastic! I will get some footage with the GoPro next weekend and post it here.
Highly recommend it!
Some pics:
Look at the size of the OEM mufflers when compared to the Kline mufllers.
Nice color after it was heated at the dyno!

Stock setup, best results were 299.2 PS & 335 Nm.
After all mods:
* max power 311,9 PS (+12,7 PS)
* max torque 367 Nm (+32 Nm)
* gain of 40 PS @ aprox. 6.250 rpm!!
BHP + TORQUE DYNO (no SAE correction):
BHP + LAMBDA values DYNO :
Then again, let me repeat myself... due to time constraints, after mods installation, I just drove the car around the shop. ECU had no time to learn and/or adapt to new air intake / exhaust system.
When I do the ECU software upgrade (planning on EVOMs), I will dyno before and after, and should get a more accurate result of the bhp improvement in its actual setup.
Anyway, the bhp + torque improvement over 4.000 rpms (+40 bhp @ aprox. 6.250 rpms) are impressive to me. You really feel it when driving!
Very happy 996 owner!

Other maintenance stuff
Hi,
As I had already planned to dyno the car in 2WD "mode", I ordered a FLEX DISC for CARDAN DRIVE SHAFT, just in case if I found out mine was in bad shape.
And it was... Old one at 74.000 miles:
New one already on the cardan shaft:
This completely eliminated a noise that I had from the centre of the car while driving.
Now the BMC air filter:
Cut the old oil filter open:
I still have the OEM IMSB @ 74.000 miles, OEM engine.
The photo quality is poor but I checked thoroughly the oil filter, very clean (previous oil change 14 months/6.000 miles ago), just 2 or 3 very small metal particles.
Thanks for your patience for reading all this, just a very happy 996 owner and had to share!
I will update the thread with vídeo/sound next weekend if weather allows.

Intake side upgrades
The HHR ("ressonator" inside the airbox) was removed, replaced hose from airbox to throttle body with a silicon one, BMC air filter, throttle body cleaned and installed an aluminium IPD, like this one:

I'm liking the torque increases down below which is important on the streets and really surprised since you're running stock ecu.
Looks like a roller dyno, no? Generally when I think of chassis dyno's, I think of wheels coming off and machines hooked directly to the hubs.
I think the magnetic drain plug gained you at least 5hp.

Edit: Holy crud... $850??

Yeah the IPD is expensive and would not be one of my first mods. I also don't think it gives you the claimed HP but for me it did smooth out everything and did provide me with some hp. Fortunately, I bought mine used for a bit less.

Thanks for the very detailed post! Your car sounds great!
I have a ’99 C4 with 45k miles that I want to dyno because it has the Fabspeed performance package and I am adding their new intake. Thanks also for the tip about having a new flex disk installed at the same time since they have to pull the drive shaft anyway.
