Default Silicone inserts in transmission housing

Anyone else notice these silicone inserts in their transmission housing? They look like they were made for the spaces where they were inserted:

Questions:

1. Do they belong there?
2. If so, should there be others that I am missing?
3. If they don't belong and someone filled the spaces with silicone, why?

There's no part number on them but there are markings that appear to be from a manufacturing process. Also it doesn't look like a blob of silicone that someone simply injected into the opening. It's too perfectly formed and consistent.

Obviously the linear markings are from the transmission housing but the circular markings are not. They look to be part of an injection process where excess was trimmed off after forming.
