Default Center console question - which option is this?

Greetings -

I own a 2002 996TT, and I was looking checking out a 2003 996TT somebody else had parked next to mine. One of the things that struck me immediately is that his car did not have the external plastic silver trim ring around the shift boot. It looks like the one in the picture below. Can somebody please tell me about this option, and how I might go about getting it?

Many thanks -

That's not an option. That's the standard shifter. The one with the aluminum-look trim ring is an optional upgrade, usually accompanied by the aluminum plate with PORSCHE lettering on the parking brake handle.

Thanks for the info, Dennis -

So, you're telling me that the silver plastic trim ring that goes around the shift boot, at the base where it's connected to the console, is an 'upgrade'? Can I just take it off?

BTW - I have the carbon fiber shifter, e-brake and steering wheel inserts, but I'd gladly go to a standard shifter to get rid of that trim piece.

I'll trade my black shifter boot w/ stock shifter for yours with silver trim.
