OK - I got new Cowl from Sonnen - it still looks grey to me - not totally black.

Removed the two nuts on each end with 10mm (deep) socket)
Removed three torx 25 screws - (two are under the hood)
Removed wiper caps / nuts - had to pull the wiper up and rotate slightly to remove
Disconnected electrical connectors for wiper nozzles
Disconnected water supply for windshield at T junction - found it easiest to remove old cowl with hoses and nozzles
still in place

Fitted nozzles and tubing to new cowl - electrical connections just slide on/off
Fitted rubber seal from old to new cowl (that sits at base of windshield)
Reassembled everything (changed cabin air filter while I was in there and cleaned drains out with vacuum (finally I found where the drains are ! - i.e. under the two side panels next to the battery cover - but closer towards the battery - not the edge of the car)

Washed and polished the car with Klasse ....
