Default Fog lights

Only used them for the first time last night.
They look a dirty yellow color when turned in. Headlights are very clear white.
Is that normal for the fog lights? Different wavelength of light to cut through the fog I assume?

Are your headlights halogen or bi-Xeon?

The color differs on ours, but that's because the headlights are the bi-Xeon versus the halogen(?) for the fogs.

Not sure. How do I tell. I'm sure they are just the stock 2003 carrera lights.

The Xenons look like (note the smaller lens towards the top of the headlight area):

The halogen will look something like this (couldn't quickly find a MkII halogen light):

Ok I have the Xenons. The fog lights come out a bit yellowish when turned on. Hope that's normal.

The difference is the different bulbs types (fogs are not Xeon).

If you still have the original bulbs new ones would probably be brighter, but they will still be yellower than your low beams.

I found out that some MKIIs came with Halogen projector headlights - meaning that they look like HID Bixenons but they are regular H7 halogen bulbs behind projector lenses.

Really? That's annoying (from trying to figure out what you have).

Based on his description (headlights are whiter) I suspect he does have the HIDs though which would explain the color difference.

I'll get some photos tonight to see if I can show what I suspect is normal.

You can easily find some whiter fog light bulbs that will more closely match the xenons. I did that several years ago. They match pretty good now.

What bulb is the best match?

If you intend to use them as a true fog light, then a bulb with a lower color temperature (like the standard OE bulb) will provide better visibility than a "whiter" light. If you want to use them as driving lights or simply want a certain look, then try to find a bulb that has a color temperature closer to the OE HID lights, which is 4,300 K.

I was more interested if it is normal for those colors. Seems the color is correct for fog driving effectiveness. They really aren't bright enough for useful driving lights.

It is perfectly normal.

I only use mine in the fog, so I've got standard bulbs in there. For performance could be improved even more with a true yellow bulb, but I agree with you - they aren't very bright.
