996 headlight covers opinions please

I don't mind at all the 2002+ 'turbo style' headlights, but if you do want to try and achieve the round look, I think by far the best results I've seen are when the headlight interior assembly itself is done in a paint-to-match color. This involves baking/disassembling the headlight, not too difficult once you get the hang of it. I think it looks particularly good on darker colored cars, but decided on my Polar Silver that it wouldn't be as noticable.
This is not my car, not my mod, not my headlights... I downloaded these pics off the web a year or so ago when I was considering doing this mod and unfortunately can't give the owner of this great looking mod proper credit.

My opinion is that the headlights look great as they were designed and they should be left in their original form. Covering them up reminds me of a tall woman who wears flats because she's afraid that wearing heels makes her look too tall. Forget about worrying what other people think. The long legs of a tall woman look great in heels, just like the original design of the 996 headlights look great. Don't cover it up... Flaunt it!!!

As I said before I like the 996 headlights, but this mod is of very good taste indeed!!!
If I had a 996 and wanted to change the looks that is where I would start.

W/ CF wrap vinyl:
A less than perfect environment for stickers (i.e. fast hot/cold) but given the installer lay out a small amount of adhesive spray between the surface and the vinyl wrap this could possily work and give pretty slick results

I admit I like the 997 lights more but the 996 lights are only hated because they are different, not because they are awful. So with that I wear mine proudly as only a Porsche snob would say anything about them. Most anyone else would still see it's a Porsche.
Now that I've had my car for a while they've grown on me and I think they are fitting for the vehicle. I actually like the fact that they're "unique."

10min in the oven at 200F degree, pry, and it went "pop' open. As easy as opening my peanut butter pot. A huge huge huge disappointment... I normally love challenges :/
Recently opened a lot of my mate's headlights. Same oven, large & flat screw driver, and a mild dose of wrist & elbow grease. Not much can go wrong in all honesty. Dead easy

Hey, my name is Charles and I've done several retrofits. I do custom installs of Freds projectors if anyone is wary about opening theirs up
Here are some more pics of Fred's projectors. Sorry if you've already seen them in the other thread.
And here's a picture of my DIY $7 custom leather interior...because I'm showing everyone and there is no one in the Boxster forum but me and the crickets

I say go big or go home. The projector upgrade with blacked out lenses looks good when done right. Everything else looks like a tacked on addition because it is.

^^^ I wish I could set my car that low. I have the same bumper/lip combo but damn I actually needed to raise my ride height above GT3 levels. Sad I know for the stanceworks crowd...lol.

^^You can definately do it. I am as low as that if not lower and I get around just fine. Yes I have to use 6 boards to get out of my garage but its worth it lol.
