Default 997 vs 996 pic

Last week I took some pics comparing a 996 to a 991 and how fresh the 996 still looks, but now looks 'shrunken' compared to the 991....

Here are some pics with a 997 S - a more even match but I must say the 997 might be the prettiest 911 yet....

Anyone watch the Top Gear episode where Jeremy Clarkson thought he was reviewing another 996 when mid-way through, he realized it was a 997?

Outside of enthusiasts, most can't tell the difference between a 996, 997, or even 991.

One of my co-worker always mocks me by stating that Porsche's designers must be the most lazy in the industry as they've only made minor changes now in 40 years. I disagree of course but if you don't know any better I can see his point.

In any case, your car is looking good and I also agree that between the 997 GT3 and 997 Turbo, those are my two favorite water-cooled 911s. I still have a soft spot for the 1994 3.6 Turbo that trumps them all.

I took a co-worker out yesterday and he was just shocked that it's a 13 year old car. Kept going on about how good it looks.

Of course I look at it and see that it needs a respray, the dash leather is bubbling, the rear deck carpet is white, etc…

But for living unprotected on the street for 13 years it does look pretty good.

To be honest though, half the time I can't tell if I'm looking at a 996 or a 997 unless I see the headlights. I, however, like that there is no question that the 991 is a direct descendent of the original 911 (and all the intervening models) when you put them side by side. Is there any other car with a 50 year history that has just been a series of refinements like the 911?

Well that's a given

I got tired of the music on my iPod yesterday so I turned the stereo off and did my commutes in the 3-4k RPM range the whole way. That's a sound I just can't get tired of

I found a route home that has an on ramp that has been blasted out of rock on two sides. WOT in 2nd then WOT in 3rd and brake to merge. The noise

It never ceases to amaze me how many people think my 10-year old 986S is a brand new $150k sports car. All they see is "Porsche" and instantly assume it's in the same price bracket as the 911TT or GT3RS they saw drag racing a Lamborghini on TV.

I'm sorry but I think the delta in styling between the gen 1 Boxster and the latest are miles apart. Not so much for the 996 to 991.

Oh, I agree; the latest Boxster is incredible and in no way easy to confuse with the first gen Boxsters. Letalone clearly not a 911TT or GT3. My point was that despite all that... the general public just sees "Porsche" and then their brains turn off.

when I was looking for parts for my airbag delete I went to a few junkyard around Dallas looking for a boxster.

First, with my accent no one could understand I was looking for a Porsche. "A Dodge?" "No, Porsche Boxster" "A Duster?"

Finally got him to understand. He was like "oh no high roller, none of this here" and he asked me what those are worth now. I told him "Like sub $10k... running" and he looked at me like I was the worst liar ever.

True story.
