cheap mod on air scoops.
So I finished the job on my 1999 996. Remove the bumper as here. -
Then take the bumper onto a carpeted floor. Buy a
leaf gutter guard from a hardware store for under $5. Throw away the
two clips on the guard. Cut it in half with tin snips each 18 inches long. The gutter
guard is 3 foot long. The mesh is very pliable and can be bent into shape by hand. I used three screws
on each side bending the mesh around the slots leaving room for the air scoops to sit in place for
when the bumper goes back on the car. Choose the thickest parts of the black plastic surround to screw
the mesh to carefully bending back the edge to allow the rubber air scoop to seat properly when the bumper
is re installed to the car.
Here are the tools you will need.
here is the inside of the bumper in the living room on the carpet so not to mark the paintwork.
Here is the front before putting it back on the car.
And here is the finished job. I can always spray paint them black if they tarnish but like the silver color.
Check this site out at $275 a pop which cost me under $5.. DIY 2 hours tops start to finish. I hate like hell exposing a rip off but I have proved that some sites think we are idiots.

half inch long self tappers with washers. Drill a small hole to accept the screw. Drill into the black stuff at its thickest so you don't go to the outside. You can see the drill size in the first picture. I had the car up to 75 and alls well. I did it to keep leaves and crap going in the scoops to the condenser and radiator. I saw pebbles marks on the condenser fins.

Not painting it just yet. I like the silver color to match the Artic Silver car but will paint them flat black if they start to tarnish. I think they would still kill the grass hoppers and sparrow but their remains along with leaves and cig ends wont go between the condenser and the Rads. This will save me having to remove the front again to clean them. The outside air temp sensor I cut away the holder to allow the mesh to seat properly and left it hanging inside the right hand air scoop.

I see the exact gutter guard at Home Depo 'Hinged 6' wide 36'long at $2-29cents. You need just one to complete both sides of a 1999 996. Throw away the hinges. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Amerimax-...0964-2&cj=true
