Default Porsche Tequipment Roll Bar install

I am in the process of installing a tequipment rollbar in my 996 cabrio. I modified the rocker panel as suggested in other threads and I am able to bolt in the front passenger side bolt but on the driver side bolt it seems the front leg does not reach close enough to the bolt area for me to start threading it in. I tried using force to spread the legs to get it close to the hole but there is not enough give... or strength in me.

I think I saw an earlier thread to use longer bolts but cant seem to find that one again.

Any suggestions on what I can do or people who have run into this?

thanks!
george

I don't have a cabrio but

1/ be SUPER careful and make sure your bar line up perfectly before trying to screw anything in there as the threads are very fragile AND you can cross thread easily if you are not lined up well.

2/ I bolted the rear passengers first. then I had to use a strap tensioner in order to spread the leg enough to be able to align then to the bolt hole. I strapped the belt in the front door hinged, there is not much tension needed but the trick is to maintain the tension and be able to put the bolt in peace.

Thanks for the quick reply philooo. In my situation its seems the front legs need to be spread to get closer to the hole. Its a width issue for the front legs.

You seem to have the opposite issue of most folks. Sounds like your PO was too aggressive removing the bar and bent it.

I would think your best bet would be to take the correct bolt to true industrial fastener shop and get a longer version.

I also had to buy bolts, not that they were too short but they were banged up

here are the one I found, it was not easy to find a match.

I believe I bought them at ace hardware
