Default One question on engine mount replacement.

To the guys who have change the engine mounts. One question. After tightening the top bolts to 20/25 foot/lbs with the trolley jack taking the engine weight, do I keep pressure on the engine from the trolley jack until I fully tighten the underneath center mounting bolt or do I release the pressure back onto the 2 jack stands before tightening to 63 foot/pounds? Thanks in advance.

Torque all bolts to spec before releasing the jack supporting the engine.

Agreed with DT. Torque them down and then release, but check them again once the jack is off to make sure you have got them spec'd right. You'll know obviously when you hear the clicking of the wrench, and then you're done.

Hey guys thanks a million. That's all I wanted to know. Especially to try the torque wrench one more time after I release the trolley jack onto the stands.

Hi Hurdi,

Agree with DT and DS - that is the way I did it two weeks ago and all was well.

Enjoy the new mounts,

Ray

Can't wait to get started. They will be here tomorrow. Going to bed all this past week. Last thing on my mind are the mounts. First thing on my mind in the morning and I mean VERY VERY early morning like 2am to 4am.. are the mounts lol. DIY is getting into my blood again. I love sweating and cursing it keeps me young . BTW KK they are gonna be telling us to get a room again hahaha.

OK I did the mounts in about an hour and a half and here is the difference new and old. Plus I cleaned the engine bay up some as it was filthy. I don't know if I feel a positive difference as the car always ran spot on anyway. It was something which I had to do as PM.

Well done Hurdi.

Will the next item on the list of PM be the IMSB?

MAYBE when its time for a new clutch and that's only a MAYBE. I have the less prone to disaster double race IMS and cutting open my oil filter each oil change. Nothing so far. Plus I have done almost 70000 miles. IMSB are more prone to go wrong in the first 30,000 or so I believe. I found the mounts much much easier DIY work than the plugs and sleeves which I did last week. BTW the car IS defo running smoother, grips the road on bends tighter and my wife says its running like a new car. I have had it out again and find that to be true.

I just did mine this evening, too. My top bolts were much looser than 20-25ft-lbs when I removed them. I think my mounts were original (50k miles). Has anyone else noticed that when removing these?

I haven't had a chance to test drive it yet, but will tomorrow! I also have to readjust my tailpipe angles.
