Quick starter removal
Maybe someone has already brought this up. But I removed my starter tonight with out dropping the engine 6" and with out removing the plenum. Had it out in less then 15 min.
Everyone says you have to remove the plenum to get to the bolt on the left lower side of the starter.
You can simply get to this bolt with a long extension and go in next to the alternator and reach the bolt with ease. The only other parts that had to come off the car were the throttle body and first plenum cross pipe.
Just sharing the knowledge.

Good to know.
I just posted this on another thread, BTW - if you're looking for a 996 starter, Amazon is cheap... '99 996, Bosch SR0808, for $155.
Had I not just dropped $800 at Discount for a set of tires for the damn Murano, I'd be ordering the starter for this weekend.

Shark Attack, was your starter previously removed before? Do you think one could still remove it with your method if the bolts were in anyway corroded? Just curious since some techniques do not offer the leverage, especially for stubborn bolts. TIA
Hey Sharkie - I missed the conclusion to your hard to resart thread. Was this the answer?
BTW - I new at this and your IMS replacement thread (i'm going in alone) is quit lengendary. Totally hilarious when you mentioned keeping up with your wife's cycles in Outlook to time your peaceful car accessory purchases. LOL
