Default Maintenance complete!

Well this has been my first full summer with my 996 and it was a blast. I've met some great people and have been on some cool drives.

I also took the opportunity to do a bit of maintenance. I did the usual items and the list is as follows. Plugs, coils, water pump, thermostat and today I finally did my motor mounts. The car runs like a dream and the motor mounts definitely helped smooth out the idle and shifts. The best part is I did all this work myself. Even though some of these jobs are basic to some, it was rewarding for me.

I even did a few cosmetic changes. I installed xenon lights, powder coated my rims and installed new exhaust tips. Here are a few pics.

Doing all that work yourself is gratifying isn't it! Car looks great and I especially like the GT3-style wing - looks sharp!

What kind of idiot drives a MKI 996 with a MKII wing?

Oh, wait...

<--- this kind!

Looks great.

I recommend shelling out the $$ for the 8-degree shims. The rear is PLANTED at speed with the shims.

The powder coat on the twists really changes the look of the car. great work. motor mounts are next on my list, hopefully before the snow falls, as all my work is done in the driveway !

Do you have a lift or did you use jack stands ?

Funny you mention that. After doing the motor mounts this weekend I was staring at the wing and thinking how much of a difference the shims would make. I will have to look into it. Thanks

No lift. I've done all the work with jack stands. I don't even have a low profile jack lol. I drive up on two 2 x 10's just so I can get my jack under the car. The low profile jack would be nice.

FWIW, Wal-Mart and Harbor Freight both sell cheap low-profile jacks. Some folks are jack snobs - I just need one that doesn't bleed fluid under load.

If in the future you'd consider a very nice low-profile floor jack perfect for working on your Porsche, take a look at AC Hydraulic Jacks which we stock. For product details of this quality floor jack click: AC Hydraulic Jacks
