kudos to all the young whippersnappers buying Porsches under 30.
I'm too pragmatic, I waited till I could pay cash and have enough money to fix anything that went wrong with it without crying about it or impacting any other area of my life. Some of you young fellas probably make more money than me though.
I call my mid-life crisis more of a mid-life awakening, realizing I can't take my money wiht me when I die and that I'm only here for a shoprt while so I better have some fun while I'm on the right side of the dirt.
To that end I got into the vehicles most likely to put me on the wrong side of the dirt, sport bikes. 8 years riding sport bikes and an escalating trail of 4 wheeled toys and I'm still at it.

I feel like I can responsibly enjoy a 911 now while my eyes are good, hearing sharp, and reflexes quick, instead of waiting until retirement when the car I wanted now costs a billion dollars. (Inflation adjusted)

Early 996s are pretty much at that point now, which is great. The big repairs aren't super out of line relative to other German cars (unless you lose an engine, in which case, ). It's even relatively practical!

Been buying (and selling ) these cars for over 50 years, probably 30-35 total, and I can report that for $15-18k for an early 996 it is probably the best deal ever. Even with all the issues it's still the best bang for the buck. I suspect that it is due in large part to those in my generation looking more to the 356, early 911 vintage cars now that they can afford what they couldn't back then. I had no problem unloading a 993 and picking up a much newer car for 1/3 the sale price.

Jk, I agree with your assessment. And if you are planing on keeping it, you can do quite a bit of customization(sounds better than modding) and still have a lot of car for the money.
