Default IPD Plenums and Larger T-Body

Anyone do this?
I talked to a fellow that stated that his butt dyno was presently surprised and thought for the money it was a fantastic upgrade.
Not sure

There is an older thread here somewhere that discusses IPD. I remember that that thread also includes a dyno test done by an independent company and they could find any hp gains... Some of the people from IPD are also taking part in the discussion in that thread. I believe the conlusion is that yes, the IPD plenum might increase the hp sligthly (under certain conditions), BUT it is not due to the better airflow into the cylinders. The reason is that it makes some of the cylinders to run leaner.

I have tried to find the thread but couldn't find it, sorry.

I have this setup but haven't dyno'd it. The IPD itself made for a smoother acceleration but def not the 20-30hp claim. I wanna say 5-7hp by my butt dyno. I wasn't really expecting much from the ported throttle body except enhanced throttle response which I got. As for hp, it probably stayed the same with the IPD combo, maybe 1-2hp. It was too costly for me to dyno each mod separately so my plan is to do a whole enchilada package dyno hopefully in the fall sometime when I round out couple more mods. Btw, this is on a 3.4.

I have only put the plenum on and that was two years ago.
There was a lot of controversy at the time (maybe still is) but I for one was very pleasantly
surprised at the noticeable difference as far as seat of the pants feel go's.
I feel a clear improvement in mid range "pickup" and I have been tempted to add the larger
throttle body which may happen sooner rather than later!

I also run the IPD. I don't think there are much HP improvements but the tcar is smoother throughout the rev range and definitely more pleasent to drive with this mod.

It should be noted that the advertised claimed HP gains are not peak HP but HP gains throughout the rev range.

I would say if you find one used at a decent price it is worth it

This is the key. I don't think it's worth the full price IMHO.

You know, it probably isn't worth the money to you; however, I added the IPD Plenum on my car in lieu of the IMS upgrade. I immediately noticed the difference with the Plenum right away and am satisfied with the results

Are you saying you're OK with the risk of IMS bearing failure and chose instead to invest in a 1-2 hp boost? If so ... wow.

I'm saying that my mechanic looked closely at the IMS while changing the clutch at 107K miles and suggested that instead of the IMS upgrade, install the IPD Plenum for better performance. He is a former senior mechanic at a local Porsche dealership and has done a fantastic job of maintaining all my Porsche cars over the past 12 years. I respect his opinion and my car runs smoother and no IMS issues. My car is at 135K miles

I know this wasn't directed to me but I've spent way more on a whole host of other mods as my IMS stays untouched. It will remain untouched until my next clutch change which I'll then re-evaluate at that time. I sleep just fine thank you.

+996 Alp
I want to find a way to block every thread in this forum that has the IMS word in it.

+1 to 996p.

There has to be a way to ban people mentioning IMS in every thread. It is f***ing ridiculous.

I am willing to start a fund to hire Kimbo Slice so he could go and knock out every person who mentions IMS in unlreated threads.

That may be a little excessive, but I agree
