Default Signal processing unit delete?

I want to delete the center console on my 996. Unfortunately, one of the cubbies is currently occupied by the signal processing unit for the stereo.

Can this unit just be unplugged without affecting performance of the head unit?

Here's the item I'm referring to:

I have aftermarket android stereo and when you unplug it the stereo stops working, I guess it turns on the amp. So you would have to rewire the amp and the speakers. I just turn my on and hid it under the console. The space right by the floor between the driver and passanger footwell. There is room there for that. I think its always on. But everything works perfect.

I did exactly as wucash did. My aftermarket head unit would not work without it plugged in. I was too lazy to rewire it.

Thanks, wucash and gator...that was my backup plan if it needs to stay. Sounds like it does, so it'll join all of the other wire I have stashed up behind the dash or, as wucash suggested, above the foam separator on the pass-side footwell.
