How common is it for the rear wheel bearings to break down? 64K miles and a few sessions on the track in my 2003 C2 and one of them is shot so replacing both just in case the other is on its last leg.
Wheel bearing failure usually happens whenever, really no mile specific or time judgement. Though cars that are tracked will see them wear out more frequently, since they are putting higher lateral loads on the bearings. For more information on the bearings we offer Click Here.

Not common.
Generally either fail "early" or last forever. On the street.
One in my Boxster failed at <100K miles. The shop replaced it. I offered to let it replace both but was told if it is not making any noise to leave it be.
The replacement bearing is just fine now with 160K+ miles on it. The 3 original are fine with 268K miles on them.
Up to you but my advise is to replace the noisy one and leave the quiet ones alone.
I had to replace my rear wheel bearing about a year ago (and decided to replace the front while I was at it), so I did some research back then. It seemed some cars were more prone to bearing failures than others. Akers Porsche in Seattle specifically noted that Boxster S's were very often in the shop for bearings.
If you're going to do it yourself, then shell out for a Sir B90 bearing puller.
