PCM I'm so confused
My fellow brothers,
Being a new 996 owner (04), I've searched and searches the forums for a PCM that will work for me. But I just don't understand it. I've gone to stereo shops in my area and they tell me I need a new amp and speakes to install this. I have the Bose now with the amp in the boot, fiber optic they say. I think the speakers are great and don't want to change them if I don't have to.
I don't know what bazel kit, jumper wiring kit etc I need. I just want a system that will show GPS, play my DVD's and CD's. Any help will be appricated. Thank you much, Dennis

Hi Dennis,
I'm going to do what you want to do, i also want to keep my speaker system and have Sirius/xm, DVD, NAV, Phone.
Went to my local Stereo shop, he told me i could keep my speaker system, this is what he is going to install next week.......
Alpine - S920 HD and a Power Pack KIP - 445-U that works with 4 an 2 ohms,,,,, will update when installation is done, or if there are any problems
...... Lane ......

There is a connector that will allow you to tap into the fiber-optic network and utilize the stock Bose amps and speakers.
That being said, the speakers are truly the weak link in the system in terms of sound quality. If you really want to upgrade the sound, you should consider changing the amps and speakers. I realize it's more expensive, but I'm really happy that I did it.
One more note - Bluetooth telephone connection is certainly convenient, but the noise level in the 996 cabin while driving renders this feature useless. If this feature is a key reason for your upgrade, then you may be disappointed. It really is nice to have iPod connectivity, Sirius/XM and Pandora.
Good luck!

I agree with Dennis on the phone comment. In addition I have a cab and you really can't here the phone on the other end even with the top up. It's good for killing the radio and alerting you that you have a phone call - but that's about it.

Was at Porsche dealer, and talking with the service manager about radio upgrade, he told
me who they go to, so i went to the audio shop and talked with the owner about the existing
speaker system, and he told me i can use the system in the car if i want, So now I'm trying
to decide on what i want to do as far as having just SiriusXM or going with a whole upgrade,
radio-gps-phone - back up camera...... decisions decisions,,,,,,, will update on what i do.....
