You can use the Bose amp with aftermarket head units.

I have been told there is no simple way to use an aftermarket head unit with the Bose amplifier, even with adapter cables. I would really like a definitive answer on this question as I would really like to dump the Becker CDR 23 unit. There are MOSFET units FS but the issue has something to do with the differing ohms throughout the speaker system. Anymore dome this to there car with just a head unit change?

Unless you find a head unit that passes fiber optic out to the amp, you have to change both the amp and the head unit. Then depending on the amp, you may or may not have to rewire some of the speakers (namely the sub). The Bose Sub is 1 ohm. As most amps are only stable down to 2 ohms, you have to put the two speakers in the sub box in series to raise the impedence up to 2ohms or your amp will likely burn up.

You can get a MOST-HUR, around $500 and will allow you to retain the amp and speakers, otherwise you must change them.

Here is a guide that I borrowed (I can't remember which site). Anyway, it gives you a lot of good information. Also, there are literally hundreds of threads out there about it. If you have any specific questions, PM me.
