I do agree, though I think the new 991 is perfection.

The 996 is the last 911 that looks the right size (petite) to me. There's a certain point in dimensions when a car goes from "sports" to "luxury". Makes any sense?
Didn't think so.

I like the 997 narrow body. It and the 996 widebody are perfect.

I couldn't agree more. IMHO, the 996, especially the C4S, including the 993, are the best looking and have the perfect combo of size, modernity and performance. Earlier this year, went to the dealer where I bought my 996 and checked out a '09 C4S, test drove it ad came out underwhelmed. More amenities, faster, surer, but also larger, more bloaty. Even though the price was good and the trade-in for mine was good, I passed. My 996 seems to fit like a bespoke suit, perfect size, enough amenities and nannies, but not too much. I have been attracted to the new Boxster and Cayman because of the size, so who knows? But for now, I'm still love my 996.

I agree with all of you ... but of course I love my plain Jane Silver C4 the best. Simple and smooth lines that I see much more like the original "longnose" 911's. I am also loving the look of the new Cayman, but... having sat in one at the dealer recently I find it's "bigger wider longer" body somewhat closer all around on the inside. I much prefer the interior styl of our early 996ers. And I would miss the five gauge dash of the 911. Same feeling in the new Boxster (top up). My 996 never feels that way. Nor does our two seater "Roadster" 968 for that matter. We took a 3400 mile trip to Parade in the C4 loaded with stuff and it still felt roomy and comfortable. Happy motoring!

How about this one?? I took this shot right after I bought the car
I actually like the Sport Classic's curves a lot, esp the duck-tail. Duck-tails look good when the wheels fill the arches completely, and the wide-body adds to the duck-tail's aesthetics as well.

I may be in the minority but I sincerely think the booties of the 996 and 997 wide body cars look better than the 991 Turbo's booty in that picture. I might like it better in person but that picture kind of gives it a squarish look that I don't find as flattering.
