Default Magnetic Oil Drain Plug?

Has anyone tried this magnetic oil drain plug? Any disadvantages? Do you just wipe any metal shavings off the drain plug?

Yes.
No.
If there are shavings, stop driving it. If there is a little bit of magnetic sludge, wipe it off and keep driving it.

I've got one on my 00 Cab, and it's an additional, as well as a very cheap way to monitor the overall health of the internals of your motor. As mentioned, some VERY small metal debris is pretty normal in our M96 motors, and I also suggest you always cut open your oil filter at every change to check for metal fragment/debris. Extra piece of mind when it comes to possible future expensive issues can't come much cheaper than doing these two things! I'm happy to say that at 13 yrs old and having just turned 70,000 miles, my magnetic plug and filters have never had even a trace of metal debris!
