Replaced the engine mounts this morning (115K miles). A few weeks ago, I had drips of fluid coming from both sides of the rear end and traced it back to the engine mount area. The old mounts were gone and the engine was hanging at least 1/2" lower. Job was pretty easy and took about two hours end to end. Car idles and runs 10x smoother now.
In this pic, you can see how much farther the old (left) engine mount is extended compared to the new (right) mount.
And in this pic, you can see that the rubber is extremely deteriorated and the fluid had been leaking.
When I lowered the jack too fast.... I busted both of mine. They leaked some green looking fluid on the floor. They were ready to go anyway (75K).
I replace them with little effort and it made a noticable difference.
If you ever decide to change your water pump..
The DIY tutorials are great but don't mention that if you back off the bottom nut on the motor mount, it makes it easier.
I will try it next time. Not looking forward to it tho.
What a pain in the ****, those water pumps.
