Default 997 trans fit a 996?

Hi,

Will a 997 6 speed transmission fit a 996 C2?
If not has anyone developed a mod to make it fit?

thanks,

Eric

The '99 996 has a different trans mount than the later models. So you'll definitely need a new mount for the car.
I assume the bolt pattern is the same for the engine/trans since the engine between the 996.2 and 997.1 is the same (basically).
You will need to figure out if the starter is in the same place (probably is) and if the clutch operation is the same.

My guess is that they are interchangeable, but definitely check the clutch operation.

Yes they're interchangeable. The shift linkage is on the other side (driver's side with the 997). Also the gearing is slightly lower....
996 GEARING:
1st gear 3.818
2nd gear 2.20
3rd gear 1.516
4th gear 1.216
5th gear 1.024
6th gear 0.841
Final drive 3.444

997 GEARING:
1st gear 3.91
2nd gear 2.32
3rd gear 1.61
4th gear 1.28 (1.31 S model)
5th gear 1.08
6th gear 0.88
Final drive 3.44
