Default Bad Key?

So one of the ignition keys stopped working remotely and now has a continuous red light on. Can this key be saved with a new battery? (and yes, IRTFM)

Open it up (don't loose the black pill) and look at the circuit board. It sounds like one of your activator buttons is stuck or shot. These can be removed and replaced if you have a small soldering iron and some solder wick.
There is a thread where someone has listed replacement switch part #s and supplier.

From the above link"

"Dave:
There is an interesting article in the June 2010 issue of Excellence Magazine entitled: "Fob 4 Less: Fixing a modern Porsche key for less than $3 bucks". The article describes rescuing a dysfunctional key by replacing a couple of small, inexpensive momentary switches. Looks relatively easy to do and since the electronic functions of your key are already messed up you don't have much to lose. I have one non-functional fob, but since the other is working I haven't tried this idea yet. I did call the dealer about a replacement. They offered to solve the problem for $375. If you go the diy route please let folks know how it works out.
The article lists the source for the momentary switch as: www.digikey.com, phone # (800-344-4539). The three switches (this is a reply to a targa owner 3 switch Remote) are normally off (part # CKN9193CT-ND).

Web link does not work. I am in the same situation, 1 old fob nonfunctional.
Used to work just fine, now just blinks. Dealer wants around $375 to fix.

It is possible a button has become stuck. More often what happens is the key electronics gets in a goofy state, like a PC that hangs.

No big red switch on the key module but you can separate the key module head and remove the battery.

In some cases inserting the key backwards for a moment is called for.

This may not resurrect the key though if the battery has been depleted by the circuit being on all the time. So you probably should buy a new battery.

If this doesn't resurrect the key the chances are the electronics is dead. A new module can be fitted to the blade. The old key module's ID will have to be deleted from the car's security module's memory and the new key module's ID added.
