Default Removal of clear bra

My 02 has a clear bra. It's starting to look bad- slightly yellow and has scratches that I can see in the right light.

Has anyone had success removing theirs? I'd sure hate to damage the paint below.

Thanks

I removed film by carefully using a heat gun, then cleaned up the spots where the adhesive stayed on the using painter's wax and grease remover. After that, I had to buff the surfaces to finish cleaning things up. The car looked good when I was done, although I'm not sure this was the correct way to remove film. It took me a couple of hours. I have had good luck in the past removing decals by letting the car sit in the sun long enough to get warm and just starting an edge. If you let it get too hot the film/decal will tear again and again. I think if you wait too long, .. until the clear film gets old and begins to get crazy lines in it, it will take you four time longer to remove. Once protective film begins to yellow remove it; wait till it cracks, and you may not get it off by yourself.

What painters wax/grease remover? Can you post a link for these products? And won't this hurt the finish?

What painters wax/grease remover?
It's what painters wipe a car down with before spraying. It is good for general wax, grease, and mild adhesive removal. Prep-Sol® 3919S. There are stronger adhesive removers which may work. but this stuff is safe on paint.

I just started to remove the clear bra on my truck yesterday. I'm about halfway done. So far I'm about an hour in but it's going well. Use a heat gun to warm the film and it works best to pull straight up so it stretches. Once the film is removed I used Goof Off to remove the glue. I applied a coat of wax and it looks great. Time to go pull off the second half.

Goof Off!?!? Are you serious? It's not April Fools yet... Goof Off WILL REMOVE YOUR CLEARCOAT AND PAINT (ask me how I know).

I didn't use anything but sun and pure force to remove mine. It was slow but it left no adhesive behind. I just detailed it after

My friend that is a pro film installer said to first hit the film with the heat gun to soften things up, then pull toward you and up to strip the film off. The film is strong so stretching isn't an issue. If you just pull up, you put a lot of stress on the paint.

Be sure to heat it to soften the adhesive. As SHF1 said, pull toward you like in the image below. We did just that on the 15 year old film on this 911 and then installed our new Ultimate self-healing film and the results were amazing!

What's a ballpark price to get a clear bra with installation? Thanks!

Do not even think of using Goof-Off.

This can be a very slow painfull job. The nice thing is the paint will look like new once you get the Bra off. WD-40 works as well as anything else (slowly) and may take many applications with clean soft paper towels or rags to get the glue off.

Our proprietary headlight film because its optical clarity does not interfere with the light's output or pattern. XPEL Headlight Film

Important to note, "Goo Gone" is safe for paints while "Goof Off" isn't.

I've used Goo Gone to debadge and clean up any residue many times before without any issues.

But in this situation,I agree with the others and heat it up to remove it.
