Default TStat removal

I'm replacing the thermostat and water pump today. How do I remove the tstat from the housing? Do I need a special tool to remove or install? Thanks!

I don't know that you HAVE to have one of these, but it makes the job easier.

All you need is a couple of stubby screwdrivers to push down on the tabs of the thermostat and then rotate it a bit. It comes right out.

Thanks for the help. I was able to get it with two pointed nose pliers.
