Looking for a tire inflator for general garage use. If also somewhat portable that would be great. Pimarily to be used to inflate car and bike tires. Every store and web site seems to have one but don't want to get stuck with a POS. I'd rather spend a little more and get one that will last. Suggestions appreciated?

Believe it or not, this one is pretty good. I'm not sure what the story is, but this compressor has been sold for at least 10 years, probably under 5 different brand names. A few years ago you could buy them for $20 from a chain auto parts store (Checkers maybe?) I thought it was so good for the price, I bought 3 of them. I've used it to inflate 32" Jeep tires from trail pressure (~11 psi) to highway pressure, no problems.

I'd prefer one that I could run tools with. This generally is not portable, although mine is on wheels and I've loaded it in the back of my Jeep. I'd get anything but an oil-less as they are ruthlessly noisy. Look at Home Depot or Lowe's, anything cast iron with oil in the lower case is good.

I'm quite happy with this one. Very powerful and quiet. Uses quit a bit of current but no problem topping off tires even w/o engine running to recharge the battery.
