Default GT3 spoiler adjustment shims

One of the things that's been bugging me a little about my new-ish 996 is that the angle of the spoiler isn't such that it is producing significant downforce. After some research, I came across GT3 spoiler adjustment shims, which seem precisely what I need to get some additional downforce and keep the rear end planted.

1) Anyone agree/disagree that this is the appropriate method for adjusting the Aerokit wing?
2) Has anyone done it?
3) Are the shims visible / need to be painted?

Thanks in advance for any comments. Here's my 996, since I'm always ready to post another picture of it.

In order:
1) Shims are the way to go. You can get 2 different inclinations, 4 and 8 degrees. They are OEM and come with OEM part numbers.

2) Plenty of people have done it, a quick forum search should turn up a few. These threads were all over the place back when the 996GT3 was still relatively new-ish. The GT3 RS wing blade provides even more downforce, but you may or may not need that much depending on how you feel your car handles and your speed.

3) You will see a bit of the larger shims, but I believe they're either black or red. If black, then no need to paint because...well...your car looks pretty black If red, bust out the Plasti-dip and have at -er.

Edit: Because i'm feeling super ADD-ish about work tonight, here ya go

the shim are red, which I thought would be cool to have, you know a little red thing that look racing.
Only problem is that the plastic look a bit cheap.

I went with the 8 degree shims on mine and I think it provide the perfect amount of additional downforce for those of us not taking corners above 100+ miles per hour.

Philooo, do you have a photo you can post up, or before-and-after? If so, cool; if not, no worries.
