Maybe the OP doesn't look at the oil pressure gauge?

Does it matter? Lesson learned, don't use too much RTV on any oil seal.

It matters because the story and the pictures don't add up. 20 years ago, when I was learning how to work on cars, made the same mistake but it only resulted in a spum connecting rod bearing. I was driving that car when the oil filter and the bypass tube got plugged. Thing don't add up here, would be nice to know the real story.

We had a meet and greet with Jake and Charles (And Tony Callas of Excellence) last night and one of the points passed on to us is that idling is the WORST state for an M96 because of low oil pressure @ idle. If there was a preexisting condition - the lower oil pressure wasn't helpful...

The new issue of Excellence has a letter and response to it that EXACTLY discusses this situation. (i.e. oil screen blockage due to excess sealant.)
