Default Tire time again.. 265 or 275?

Was doing the oil change yesterday and saw its time to buy new rear tires again... Annual cost of porsche membership I suppose. So I've done some research and narrowed it down to the new Michelin super sports which is the ps2 replacement it seems. My question for those in the know, do I go with 265/35/18 or 275/35/18? And yes I've searched here and 6speed finding discussion on the tire but little about the sizing.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure that 285/30 is the correct, original size for the 18" wheels on the 2002-04 in your avatar.

Tire Rack agrees.

Yes, that's the accurate Oem size, but Michelin went away from it in the ps2 and super sports, so I have to get close. Currently I've got 275/30/18 ps2's in the rear, but that's not an option for the super sports.

I'd love to buy Super Sports for my C4S, but they don't make the correct size for my rear tires either. I've heard rumors that new sizes are coming...

PS2 has a wear rating of 220 and SS is at 300, so that's a perk of SS. But the PS2 is still a great tire. Unless Michelin is phasing it out, the size difference will keep it alive, along-side the SS.

Tire Rack has a very user friendly interface for finding specific tires, in sizes that will work for you.

My fealty to Porsche chassis engineers exceeds my love of Michelin's tires. The 285 came about after Porsche added both weight and horsepower to the rear with the 3.6 (and yes, i know 17" wheels were standard).

If it were me, I would switch to another N rated 285 tire. I've been running Conti DWs and really like them.

The Michelin rep at Tech Tactics West Dec.2012 said July 2013 was estimated availability date.

No good options there. I love the SuperSports so if I were in your position I would wait until your tires have exposed threads, hoping a Michelin replacement becomes available. Assuming you have the option not to drive your 996 in heavy rain.

If you were interested you could change sizing slightly.

I run the PSS on my C4S in a 285/35R18 in the rear and 225/45R18 in the front. OD differences between the front and back are minimal, and the load and speed rating exceed that of the correct sized PS2. With spacers in the back of my car, the slight stretch of the 285 tucks a little nicer into the rear fenders giving a more flush look than the 295's which had slight rubbing issues with the spacers.

I'm running 265/35 -18 on my '02 c2 ..that was option size for all season tires ... Grip at rear is no problem ... Under steers at front at limit . Maybe if you are hardcore track guy you can tell a difference. Can't vouch for c4s however ..

265, 275, and 285 can all be used. 285 is most popular. Please call me if I can help!
