Default Rain Sensor/Wipers

So...my intermittent wipers have been a bit iffy since I bought my car a year ago. The speed is almost always too slow. I end up having to manually activate a swipe. The rain sensor looks to be "fogged up" which may be a result of a Florida car coming to Canada (?) or something else. Does this sound possible? How hard is it to get to the sensor - do I need to take of the rear view mirror? Is that a big job?

If it is condensation I am picturing removing, drying thoroughly and reinstalling. If there is a simpler way of getting in there I could perhaps dry it out with a hairdryer or some dessicant.

Thanks Ben

IIRC On the 996 the sensor is just stuck to the windshield. I installed mine after the after the fact. The sensor used a clear double-sided stick pad. Then the wire ran along the headliner and down the a-pliar. Then it plugged into a relay.

Follow up: My rain sensor was accessible once the rear view mirror was removed (this is a 996tt). The sensor had some misting on the glass - and was detached from the glass. Cleaning the glass has improved the wiper response however I believe that reattaching will fix it completely. There is a specific adhesive pad (foil in the prosche parts manual) for the job (~$25CAD).

Cheers Ben
