Default Engine Mount Upgrade - Benefit(s)?

A lot of you guys have upgraded your engine mounts, and everyone seems happy they did. But I don't see much about the benefit(s) -- why do it?

If you read the posts and you still don't understand, I don't think you will unless you actually do it. I'm not gonna bother trying to convert you.

Looks like you track your car. Definitely a worthwhile mod. The slop/flex you feel when cornering and braking at the track will disappear with RS mounts or any semi-solid mount. The pros include, more accurate shifting feel, minimal engine movement under throttle allowing all the power to be transmitted to the chassis, compliments the suspension upgrades you've done, and the car will feel solid and screwed together. Easy DIY mod with noticeable characteristics that will transform the feel of he car.

The cons.... Raises the engine since the bladder of the original mounts is changed for a solid rubber bushing. No big deal if you're car is lowered. Also, sharp expansion joints will be very noticeable compared to the dampening you get with oe mounts.

For a track guy, the semi-solid mounts are a no brainer. For the casual street driver i wouldn't recommend them.

I think you meant to say: "Thanks for being an a$$hole..." My remark wasn't the most helpful, I know.

Cliffs Notes from couple other threads on this:
Improved Shifting
More solid cornering
Better launching
Better feel in threshold braking

It kinda feels like you got new suspension back there would be the way I would describe it.

This is based on the aftermarket Corteco branded mounts which appear to be slightly stiffer than OEM. I wouldn't bother just swapping to new OEM mounts unless yours are shot(leaking or sagging).

Poly mounts would introduce slightly more NVH but as mentioned above, would offer an even better feel, albeit for more track focused performance.

You're Welcome.

Im on the market for motor mounts as we speak, i read that the oem turbo mounts are a little stiffer, is that true?

also Im looking to stiffen things a bit, i dont track the car but love performance, etc.

do semi solid mounts add too much NHV or not?

thanks

Noise - very little if any
Harshness - some
Vibration - very little

Never tried turbos. From the looks of them I don't think you could feel a noticeable difference. RS on the other hand gives definite stiffer ride.

Don't bother with OEM turbo mounts. I had them on my car and didn't notice anything.

The RSS kit looks pretty gnarly.

Suncoast sells the Porsche RS mounts.

The RS mounts are actually from the 993RS. I have them and like them + they are Porsche parts.

yep...dealer just removed the old mounts with 109,500 miles on them and i replaced them with the turbo mount...not much at all...didn't even raise the driver's side exhaust tip back up....guess i'll have them adjust it up for me...the old mounts were 1/2 longer than the new one though...i got that and the trans. serviced (new fliud) at the same time...it does shift better!
