Default Engine will not start

He's Back!

Thanks for the help and comments on the brake booster. For two days it was back as usual. Jump in, turn the key, let it warm up, and .... live the
dream. I have put 150 miles on it since the dealer.

Not realted but, I decide to tackle the horn bezzel issues. I check the fuse and the relay. They were both working properly. And I did nothing more than pull these two out and then put them back. Figure I would pull the airbag and fix this last night.

So around 6 pm last night I jump in and start the car. And then it dies after about 15 seconds. I go to start again and it barely lumps over. Try again and turns with not even a hint of spark. Bummer.

Car has 1/2 tank of fuel. Battery is hot and is turing the motor well. Intrument cluster is full on. Lights and AC and radio all working.

I pull and check all the fuses for the engine and fuel pump. They check ok.

I may go buy a code reader today and see what is up.

So, Fuel, Spark, Compression.... Engine should run. I can pull a plug and ground it out while bumping the motor. Compression does not just up and die. Or I check fuel pressure?

Where can I put a gauge on the fuel pressure rails (?)? I have done this on other cars?

I cannot believe that the fuel pump or filter just craps out. The car was sitting for a few months while I sorted out the brakes.

You need proper camshaft timing too.

Pull a spark lug and see if they are wet? If they are, it's an ignition issue. If they are dry, fuel delivery is where you should start looking at.

Well...

No detectable codes. Bummer. Back to old school I guess.

Car has 70k on it. Never had a lick of trouble before the brake booster issue.

I will pull the plugs, check for spark, and see if they are wet.

Pullled a couple of plugs. They all sparked when I tried to start motor.

They all look clean and dry. Not wet.

I guess I will search the forums for fuel pump DIY and see what else I can test.

If anyone knows where the test valve is for check fuel pressure please let me know. Else I will be looking for a needle in a hay stack..... ;-)

Do you have durametric? If you do, check if there is codes for alarmsystem.

To my knowledge, the starter will spin even if the immobilaiser is activated. It just won't let the engine run.

Checked my pictured from the engine pull. The fuel lines connect to the left (driver) side of the fuel rail. I don't think there is a sherder valve on the rails to check fuel pressure but I could be wrong. The fuel lines can be seen if you open the engine lid and look at the left side of the fuel rail.

Should be schrader valve on the right side of the engine right behind the AC pump. There is also a fuel pressure regulator just ahead of it.

+1 on thinking it may be immobilizer/alarm issue if you've got power and dry plugs.

Fuel pump. You can check the relay, even try a bypass. The dealer parts counter can order you one. A friendly tech loaned me his when the parts department asked me permission to route my bypass to another customer another shop.

Verify there is 12v at the fuel pump when the key is turned on.
If 12V is there the pump should run.

If all you hear is the sounds of silence... hello fuel pump my old friend...(apologies to Simon and Garfunkel).

Thanks!

Fuel Relay...

Ok, I see the relay panel under the dash. Is there a link to what all of these go to? Or a location diagram? I hope I am not missing something obivous.

Fuel pump wires.

Where is the best place to located these? I guess I need to pull the panels under the front deck to locate.

Fuel Pressure

Is there a Schrader Valve I can pop to at least see if there is pressure? Using a rag to cover incase the fuel squirts out.

No. I guess I should order a set of manuals.

Can you send me a link?

I have the fuse sheet. But it only lists the fues? I fugure I could take the horn relay, if its the same, and swap it for the fuel pump?

I had a car with exact same symptoms when fuel pump relay failed.

It ran a very short time (seconds) as it exhausted the fuel in the lines. No restart; with no hint of a cylinder firing.

Found schematic. and relay layout.

Pulled Relay. Bench Tested. No Bueno.

Jumped Fuel Pump power with fuesed jumper. PUMP RUNS!

Car Started.

Off to find fuel pump relay since this is the not same as the horn relay. Different Pin locations.

Appreciate the help.
