Default Removed SAI Bearings w/pic

If anyone was curious why Porsche charges $1700 for a replacement SAI, its not the bearings. They are NMB England 608S bearings @$10 each. The SAI electric motor brushes had very little wear so the only thing that seems to cause failure is the bearings.

If your SAI just started sqealing, I would just recommend greasing them like in the DIY rather than replacing them which is really not needed as long as they didnt freeze up.

As far as I can tell the exact same pump in a Bosch box costs $281 or so from AutoAtlanta.

I have not had them side by side on a table, much less disassembled them and compared but I have a feeling that Porsche charges you $281 for the pump and another $1400-1500 or so for a fancy box that I guess you could display on your shelf...

Disassembling them like Krazy does makes sense, but if that's not up your alley, this is probably a better option than taking a chance on a used one for $150 on ebay, all things considered. Even if the Bosch one is different inside than the Porsche one (doubtful since Bosch makes the Porsche one), you can buy a lot of SAI's in a Bosch box before spending Krazy-money for the Porsche box.

Thanks, Krazy. It'll be handy someday. I start to hear some faint screeching noise from my SAI pump tonight when it's winding down.

So how did you get them out, and can you replace them (i.e. did you destroy it taking them out)?

I just disassembled the electric motor without destroying it but its hard to do so. Its a lot harder than just repacking the bearings while intact. I would only do this as a last ditch effort for a SAI with bad/seized bearings where you have nothing to lose. I doubt many will want to replace the bearings.
