C4S Newbie questions
So the weather has not been good to me meaning that the drive home from the dealer was a nightmare and not how I had seen it in my head prior to the pick up. This said the car is safe and sound in the basement car park after I gave it a good wash as the roads are salted pretty much in this country (Switzerland).
This in turn means that I have spent quite some time in the car playing with the PCM and switches etc so a few questions came up.
1. How do I manually raise the spoiler? I was under the impression that one of the switches around the PCM was wired for this.
2. I locked the car with the key by turning it right quickly. When I then unlocked the door with the key (turning it left quickly) and sat in the car, the alarm went off after a few seconds. Switched off the alarm with the key buttom. Is there a way I can lock the car without activating the alarm?
3. As I don't know when I can take the car out for a spin how long can I leave it without the batery going flat (kind of builds on point 2)?

1. Spoiler switch on fuse panel cover, driver side footwell
2. No. But you can avoid the alarm by either switching on the ignition (or with key head).
3. Depends. If car is locked, it will shut down some functions, and hold longer - about 2-3 weeks. Unlocked 1 week, roughly depending on condition of battery and what else might be connected to it. For periods of storage or not driving, connect a battery maintainer or disconnect the battery (don't latch the front deck lid if you disconnect, otherwise your have to energize it seperately or find the manual release cable).

Thanks for your reply Mark I.
So there is a specific switch for the spoiler on the fuse box... Had no idea as I thought it was to be found somewhere around the PCM.
This place is priceless, so once again thanks a million.

I believe that if you manually unlock the door with the key, you then have a limited amount of time to put the key in the ignition to prevent the alarm from sounding. I believe it's 10 seconds.

Frank, Congrats on your C4s, its a great 996. Did you get owners manuals with the car? If not, your going to need them to understand the systems. You can also download them on Renntech.org if you need to. There are aslo owners manuals on Ebay, or from your dealer.

Thanks all for your replies
Black_on_Black: I will check this evening when I get home from work.
Dennis C: I might have waited that long before the alarm went on as it didn't happen before I sat down in the seat for a couple of seconds.
KrazyK: Thanks man. All the paperwork/manuals came with the car, including the leather binder with all the manuals (and even original plastic warranty cards etc) mostly for the 911 Turbo and a few specifically for the C4S. The manual for the PCM was still sealed in its plastic covering and the original navigation CD for Central Europe also in its cover. Unfortunately these are all in German, and even though I understand German I'd prefer to have it in English. Will have a look around but not in panics should I not find it.
As said earlier in another post, the car has gone 83'500 km since new in 2002. The previous owner before me (2 owners in total before me) had only driven 19'000 since buying the car in 2007 so I guess it was more a show piece for him than an actual daily driver. This also explains why the car is mint in every single aspect (or at least what I can see/hear).
I must say, that after I changed the language on the display from French to English it is very intuitive and easy to understand when navigating the menus.
Thanks again all for your replies.
Will post photos when the weather gets better and I can take it out from the basement...
