I decided to replace the water pump out of fear from reading the magazine article. Prior to getting to pump the oil pressure sensor went. Thanks for the help I found in Rennlist.com. and the friendly & helpful members that helped make my work successful.
Anyway,
The cars *** end was in the air for 2 - weeks , I like to take my time.
Upon first start up a lifter was ticking rather loud front of the motor, I made sure it was not the IMS
The lifter gradually went quiet after 20 min. of idle.
Next day it was quiet upon start.
Are lifters prone to failure / problems?

By the way the old water pump 10 years old 33K, plastic impeller, looked to be in
great shape, probably would last another 10 years ???
Thanks

I understand the synthetic oil contributes to lifters bleeding down quicker than paraffin based oils. Also for some reason Porsche's lifters seem to bleed down quicker from sitting than a lot of other cars and take longer to pump up. Running the motor up to the recommended below 4K RPM when cold and when warm up near readline will increase oil pressure and they will pump up a lot quicker.

There are some problems with Porsche lifters but that's a story for another day.
