Default CD 4 Disc Changer

The only thing that so far doesn't work on my nearly purchased 2003 C4S is the CD changer. I've searched around and it seems like it's not too uncommon. The dealer wants $624 for the unit, plus installing. Yipppes!

Question:

1. Does anyone do repairs for the unit - Model number - CDR-23

2. How does the changer remove from the facia panel?

3. Any other suggestions? I'm not a music nut, I just like everything to work.

Thanks,

Not sure about repairs, but on my 6 disc changer for my 2001 C4 the CDs go in upside down. I didn't think mine worked either until I figured this out.

P87... Yippes, I'll try that.

I flipped the CD's w/ the same result. I get an error message, CD5, NO CD. My CD player only holds 4 CD's, so I don't know where the 5th CD comes from.

There must be a repair station that works on these? The dealer wants $624 to replace it.

Does the radio part work? If not it may be from another vehicle and need re-coding for your car. I doin't know if this part covers the CD part or not. Anyway heres a link you might use http://www.dndservices.co.uk/Porsche-CDR23-BE6612.html

SW Stereo (www.swstereo) in NJ repairs them (phone 732-522-1837). Or just buy the ipod cable and remove the CD changer like I did.

Hurdigurdiman, Yes the radio part works just fine...

Oggie, Good info, what did you put back in lieu of the changer stack? Can you post a pic of your modification?

Thanks

Mitch: from reading of your original post, could it be that you're actually talking about the 4 CD storage drawers below the radio? The changer should be a separate unit under the front deck.

Mark, now this makes sense... there is no changer in the trunk. I thought there should be one on the shelf, right side. The car is suppose to have a CD player? Are you saying that without the changer in the trunk there's no CD?

I had seen enough pictures of the trunk area to know that there was a changer mounted there for the CD player, however I thought maybe in my case I had a different arrangement. Also, there's no cables located at the trunk shelf.

Well Mark you've gone a long ways to help me figure this out. I have all the original manuals including the radio manual, but none refer to the CD player.

Thanks,

The CDR-23 has a single disc integrated player and an optional six disc cd changer mounted in the front storage area, if equipped with one. Your option codes should tell you if it originally had one. Congratulations on your 996 purchase ...enjoy.

Is this a matter of the CD slot residing behind the removable radio faceplate like on the cdr220?

Mark,

I feel like a real dummy... You're my hero! I never saw the single CD slot, the player works just fine. I'm really embarrassed to have missed that. I really appreciate you clearing that up. Now my new "baby" is perfect...

Ok Mitch now crank it up and go drive the sh*t out of it. Can you post more pics of your car? It looks like a real beauty.

I bought the iPod connector that charges and plays the iPod but does not enable control of the iPod from the head unit. I removed the CD changer and cable, and you can't tell it was ever there. I had to buy a couple of plastic plugs from the Porsche dealer to cover the holes where the bracket anchors used to be. I can give you the part number if you want because it wasn't easy figuring out which ones I needed.
