Cool

Akshun has not told us his mileage on his car, nor if the current suspension equipment on his car is all original. But I truly submit that if it is bone stock original, he will enjoy a quantum leap in handling and enjoyment for his CABRIOLET that he DRIVES ON THE STREET. Let's us not send him down the track suspension path with X-option kits that may not be what he wants. I enjoyed a quantum leap when I did the M030 RoW to my car, and it is plenty. And I am a track junkie.

X73/74 not so easy to find anymore. Gert has been backordered for a while. Seems the stock has dried up... Used sets come up for sale from time to time. May want to consider other options... Pss10, H&R, motons, motion control etc.

Hey Thundertub, sorry , forgot to mention some key details.
The car has 117000 KM on it and the suspension is factory stock.
I have 19" rims with Michelin super sport tires on all four corners.
When i lifted the car i noticed that the bump stop bushing were very worn(dried out and cracked) so recently ordered new ones.
After some thought and realizing the car is 13yrs old , i decided to price out some new shocks and struts.
I dont run my car at a race track, only on country roads when i take my car out for a run about twice a week.
im looking to maintain the same ride height ,so thats why ive been looking at the ROW suspension, it seems to be as close to stock as you can get.
I drive the car at moderate levels of speed and i like to "punch it" once in awhile.

Cool

Akshun,
Thanks for the follow up. I had about the same amount of mileage as you on my car when I made the change, and had a mostly stock suspension. I went to the M030 RoW based on my reading here, and I have NO regrets. It really is an excellent set-up for spirited road days like you describe. And you won't have to treat cigarette butts like speed bumps. I actually RAISED my car with this suspension, after 8 years with TechArt lowering springs that caused me to bottom out on EVERYTHING. I can now enter driveways and parking lots without scraping the front spoiler. The lowering springs "looked cool" (especially appreciated by the "tuner" crowd) but were a major PITA!

The M030 RoW new struts, shocks, springs, sway bars, and grommets REALLY made a superb new ride. I also changed the bump stops and the front strut tower mounts, and did all new (stock) drop links (new rubber there, too). WOW!

I also do about 3 DE weekends a year, and The Tail of the Dragon once a year. The M030 RoW is totally excellent. You can drive there in comfort, have a great weekend, then drive home in comfort, yet with that unmistakable feel of always being PLANTED (how about "grounded to the ground" like that current Toyota TV commercial? - LOL!). And no calls on Monday to my dentist.

The X-factor crowd is totally correct that those supensions are even more of the same, and for a hard core trackster or autocrosser they are the way to go and still stay factory. But that doesn't sound like you.

If you really want to walk the path to Nirvana, also do a new set of 4 tires when you do the suspension upgrade. WOW!

Thunder, thanks very much for the info.
You totally understand my intent with this car, and thats great.
IM not looking to slam it, just to achieve that "planted" feel when i decide to get a little crazy.
i have read that the springs in the rear will settle after a while and the car will sit a tad lower.
My concern was not to go too low and have my 19" wheels rubbing on every small bump.
The tires i have are brand new and seem to provide a small upgrade from the previous Nitto brand i had on originally.
i will post results and pics when i install the new ROW suspension in the coming months.
thanks,
steve

got any friends locally that are willing to lend you their wheels/tires for a while?

19" ?

I would swap those off and drive the car before spending any money/time on an ROW or other set up - you "might" find something there

when I swap to my track wheels/tires my car is pretty twitchy on the public roads with the wagon ruts - in fact its a little unsettling - but as soon as i am back on my street set up, all of that disappears - running 19's on a 996 is not new, but it is not the way it was set up to run...and ROW was also made for 18's -

just saying - think about it - I have no doubt a new suspension will improve your ride - and ANYTHING new will be better than old and possibly tired/worn parts

I'm only offering another point to think about and in no way going to benefit or care if you choose another route - its just info for me.....and it's free, so take it or leave it

All the best

Ivan, thanks for the feedback, i bought the car and it came with the 19" rims, and after reading on here, im seeing that the majority of guys are running 18"
I have been very happy with the look of my rims, but im limited to the aftermarket suspensions that i can install as most will lower the car too much, and i will be scraping the wheel wells.
Im not opposed to going to an 18" or even a 17" rim, but the ROW set-up would cost me less than a set of new rims and tires, and from what i hear, its pretty stable.

I understand a lot more now

thanks for clearing that up
ROW is fine

biting my tongue

I would find someone to swap wheels with for a few hours though - I know a handful of people who would swap with me in a heartbeat, surely you could find one near you - might solve a lot of headaches to try it

I ordered a set of 030 from SunCoast last week. They called and told me there is zero in the states and could take up to 4 months to get. I'm in no big rush, I have driver rear strut leaking after 136K miles they all need refreshing.

Wow, thats nuts!
seems to be the ROW must be a great choice for the price.
Im also very close to doing what Ivangene suggests and replacing my wheels with the smaller 18" rims and dropping it a bit with a good quality coil over set-up.
Ive seen Bilsteins , H and R and Cross available from Pelican.
Anyone have any experiences with the above mentioned brands??
feedback? quality? fit? etc...

My 030 package arrived last week and I put them on Friday (after 2 months). Wow, what a difference between the old worn stock suspension. The car feels better then it did 60K miles ago. The install took a full day as I was replacing a torn driver side outer CV boot and swapping the half shafts from left to right.

good to hear, did you have to take the car in for wheel alignment??
how is the ride height compared to the stock set-up??
