D'oh!

Here is the post:

I am interested in buying a set of GT2 wheels for spirited street use only. I have a sets of OEM wheels that I use for my DE & track events.

Suggestions of where to buy my replica wheels?

Has anyone purchase some from Modbargains below?

http://www.modbargains.com/Porsche-G...yle-Wheels.htm

All / any input appreciated. Thank you.

I can offer my opinion, although I have not purchased from modbargains.

My belief is that you get what you pay for. Wheels that are offered at this price are made in China, and probably do not meet the standards set by American or European wheel manufacturers. For street driving only, they'll probably be fine. I wouldn't take them to the track. A Porsche 911 is a high-performance sports car, and it should be equipped with high performance parts. That's my $.02 worth!

Thanks Dennis. Who's next to drop their 2 cents?

Not much you can add to Dennis' comment. He nailed it.

Ditto to Dennis' comment. "You get what you pay for..."

Replica
+ Same look
- Heavier
- Might actually be more fragile

If you are not after track performance, I'd say replica will serve the look purpose just fine.

+1000 you get what you pay for.

I don't think that modbargains sells replica wheel.

Sure they do...

"Porsche "Turbo Style" Wheels

Note the manufacturer is listed as "China."

It also says that they pass "JWL and VIA standards to ensure the highest level of safety and quality." JWL/VIA are Japanese standards as far as I know.

Aren't Porsche's OE wheels TUV certified?

IMO, if a wheel passes JWL and VIA standards, it's a good wheel. The ratings are almost if not the same as a comparable TUV certification.

Do people think BBS are junk? A good portion of BBS wheels are made in Japan with the same JWL and VIA certifications.

Does that mean the wheel is good for you? It depends on your priorities. The replica wheel manufacturers tend to use more metal to strengthen their wheels to be able to meet the JWL/VIA certifications so naturally most of them will be heavy.

For me having a performance car is worthless if you are going to offset it with heavy wheels so I spent the extra change on BBS forged wheels. I know not everyone cares to spend that kind of money or have the means to but these days, there are a few other economic wheels out there(Enkei NT03 and Victor Innsbruck come to mind). And with the new low-pressure cast or spun cast techniques, they are able to make cast wheels lighter and more stronger than before while keeping costs down.

Alpine,

I wasn't criticizing the JWL and VIA standards or even the quality of the wheel in that post. I was just responding to the comment that modbargains doesn't sell replica wheels. I believe an OEM wheel would have a different certification stamp and that the manufacturer wouldn't be listed as "China" -- that's all.

As for quality, I stand by my "ditto" above. TUV, DOT, JWL doesn't mean wheels aren't fragile, soft, or whatever. Cheap wheels, however, tend to be just that.

IIRC, I inquired about those same wheels awhile ago and they were pretty decent for reps at something like 25lbs front and 28lbs rear. Don't quote me but it was around that amount.
