My 996 is leaking refrigerant, but I can't find the leak. When I add a can of refrigerant, the a/c will blow cold for about a month, then it stops blowing any cold air. I ran some dye through the system, but I wasn't able to see any of the dye anywhere I could reach with the light.
Can anyone suggest a good a/c shop in the Lehigh Valley PA area?
Is there any reason you don't want to use the local Porsche dealer in Allentown ? I've worked with them for over 5 years and overall I am really satisfied.
If you can't find the leak, it may be the evaporator coil which is located inside and requires the removal of the entire dashboard. An experienced mechanic should rule out everything else first since this is a huge time consuming project. My boss's 996 needed a new one and the dashboard removal wasn't pretty, but our garage knows 996s really well and put everything back together perfectly with no leftover screws or pieces.
I have used the Allentown dealer and been very happy with them. Different set of guys then the other car lines. I think the service techs are great there, I've been very happy with them.
I've also used Speciality cars in allentown before and have found them to be great guys. I'm not sure they would be cheaper than the dealer but they build race cars and do engine rebuilds. They seem like total pros and have a clean shop. I havn't used them for anything major but their customers seem to be loyal. The only problem is that I think they are very busy and it may take a while to get in thats why I still go to the dealer there not as busy!

+1 - same dealer for Mercedes, Audi, and Porsche - but dedicated staff. I have a friend at work who uses the dealer for his 997 and Cayenne- couldn't be happier. Same guy used the same dealer for his Mercedes - very unhappy.
I use them for my two Porsches and they treat me, and my cars, very well. Rates are competetive and if you are a PCA member you get 10% off parts and labor.
Just take it to an AC shop.... Tell them you want to wait on it. You will be fine...
They are just going to sniff it for the leak and then give you a price to fix it.
I dont think you need a specialty shop for the AC.
