I don't have access to my car and sticker. I also searched the posts and found the code for a plain black (not basalt or metallic) as L471 but there may be a different code for before '02. Mine is a '99. Can someone with a MK I please take a second to look at the sticker under the frunk lid and tell me the code? Thanks so much. (I already know you get what you pay for, don't do it halfway, spend more time in the driver seat, etc. but please feel free to remind me. Or please contribute other words of wisdom not backed by data.)

According to "996 the Essential Companion" pg 619 there are four Black color codes for 1998- 2005. they are 719, 741*, 747 & 041. The * means water based paint, I think (but am not positive) that if your 99 is a US spec car your code is 741* (L741). I believe all US spec cars used the water based paints. All these codes are listed as Black (A1). So they are all basically the same standard black color.
Hope this helps. Others may have more info, and a Porsche dealer could help clarify.

In 1999 it was 747 if it was conventional paint and 741 if it was water based.
