Default question for cab owners who also have a hardtop

CORRECT PART #s courtesy of a few members here (relinluca, fpb11, Down South): 996 563 421 01

Picture of actual part courtesy of Loren @ Renntech

Is there an insert/tab in the hole where the pins go into (pls see below pic from the owner's manual, its part J). Would appreciate it if you can pull the part # for it. I thought below were the part #s for it but online sellers are stumped. TIA for any help.

Do you mean the little plastic covers? They should be on all convertibles regardless of whether you have the hardtop or not.

not the round caps (part C in picture above) but part J which I assume helps reinforce the hole while the hardtop is in use.

J is a snap on plastic cover that helps protect the cloth from rips/gouges while you drag (not) the locking pins across it.

Thanks, Frank. Any chance you have the part # for it? Below is the parts diagram that I was looking at (part 27 looks like it could be the snap on cover)

that's a new one, I've never seen the part "j" on my car, didn't know it existed. i think fbp111 is correct,, it just prevents scratching from moving the posts around on the hardtop. i've never had an issue with it at all over the years. hate to think what Porsche will charge you for those bits of plastic

Another picture I found, this time looks like an "actual" piec and not just a drawing
P.S. If this is part#27, then it will cost around $70 EACH (need two)

so out of curiosity, i went to have a look at the openings where the posts go in and there are no abrasion or wear marks around them at all; i've been putting that hardtop on for years. so if it's any comfort, that part "j" may be superflous....esp for $70 bucks apiece!

Thank a bunch for checking. While you're at it, here's one more question for you.....did your hardtop come with part #7/8 in diagram below? (# G99656355400 HARDTOP LINING COVER)

"J" are 2 patches of Naugahyde type vinyl coated fabric. They were in the packet with my manuals and such. I never felt the need to use them.

My top has 7 & 8. My "J" part looks to be made of the same plastic as the round caps with no fabric on them. I will have to go look to see if there is a part# molded on.
