Would something like this also work for a hardtop on a 03.2002 996 cab?

I don't think so. You need the four holes in the roof of a coupe to attach the rack. There's a special roof rack carrier for a cabriolet, which costs an arm and a leg.

The coupe RTS rack is still available. For more information, please click here.

We can also order the RTS rack for a cabriolet.

How does this thing fit if the hard top doesn't have the screws as mentioned above (I haven't purchased it yet )...

Also would the kit be handy enough to bring as hold luggage from the US to Europe by plane? Basically, can it be folded somehow for easy (enough) transportation?

My plan is to keep a rack mounted on the hardtop as I would only need it for winter to have my skis or when going on longer trips across Europe.

The rack does not mount to the hard top. It mounts to the body.

I do not have a picture of the 996 Cabrio RTS, but I did find this picture (also not mine) of a Boxster with one fitted. It is much the same theory.

The Cabrio Rts is ridiculous and incredibly expensive. I too wonder if the standard RTS would fit a removable hardtop. I don't see why not as it has the same channels. I may have to borrow one and find out. Anyone else try to fit one?

Has any one managed to work out a way to get the fused screws out of the roof brackets?
