Well, I finally did it! With only one day to go before I turned the big Five O, I purchased a 98 996 in Silver with a 6 speed manual transmission. The car has been very well looked after and has had extensive mods done to the engine (receipts for $25k) ....that's Aussie dollars...we get stung a bit for parts down under.
The car came with the OEM exhausts fitted but also came with a set of Mille Miglia mufflers which I will get to bolt on over the next couple of weeks as time permits. I'm looking forward to hearing the "burble".
The Porsche by 50 was a goal of mine for long time. I've always wanted a p car since I was 18 and I saw a 930 in the flesh. I couldn't believe a car could could look so good. It looked like it was carved from a solid block of metal...and had a sound that was heavenly. That was back in the 1980's, but now I have a sexy 996 in the garage and I'm in heaven.
So hello to you all from Australia!

pictures, please.
i too have dreamed about a pcar. when i was young the 80s shorthood cars looked great. when i could get a pcar, as much as i love the aircooled versions, it made more sense (25k miles/year) to get a watercooled engine.
i believe you will love your 996 as much as i do mine.
learn what you can, share what you know.
