Default Wheel Bearing Hydraulic Press Capacity??

Does anyone know the minimum press capacity for removing/installing the front and rear wheel bearings? I would think a 6-ton or 12-ton capacity would be sufficient, affordable and useful to have around.

Does anyone know the race size for the 996 wheel bearings?

Thanks.

6 ton is more then you will ever need... We take them out without a press.

Think about it this way. The Sir B90 puller just uses a breaker bar to put enough torque on the bolt to pull out the bearing. I'd say the most torque I can put on a 1/2 drive breaker bar is 500 ft lb (tops!) and it should come out with ease.

So.... 200-300 lb of force should be enough.

Thanks....all good comments. I like machine shops...cool stuff, skilled follks, good prices as you mentioned, they just dont keep the same hours so its mainly convenience. I take care of several of my vehicles and the press issue comes up often enough.

Plus, I wouldnt use the same techniques to coax the bearing out of our F-350 that I would on the 911. It looks like you can get a reasonably priced 10-ton or under press (for home garage use) in the under $300 range.

Looking at the B90 it appears to be capable of generating a lot of force so I was thinking the 911 bearing race was higher.

BTW, does anyone know if you can buy bushings for the control arms (wishbones) and control arm links and press them yourself? I am upgrading mine ('99 996 w/ 62,000 mi)...all the ball joints and drop link boots were torn or seperated and some of the control arm/link/track rod bushings are starting to peel out. It looks more like dry rot and age than wear. With all the control arms, track rods, and wishbones on the car it would be nice if you didnt have to purchase the entire arm to replace just the bushing.
