Does the door need to be removed? I sure hope not. It's plastic, but I rather not scratch paint trying to wedge it in.

never mind. done. It just had to be coaxed in.

 

Some nimrod that detailed my car burnt the paint on my door with the buffer recently so I had to have the door and fender blended in and clear coated. It came out great except overspray got on the inner fender cover. I managed to cut the 3 little plastic rivets and slide the piece out, repainted it black with trim paint and slid it back in place. The 3 rivets are easy to pop in place. Put a piece of masking tape down the front edge of the door and wiggle the black inner fender cover. In your case with it already out its a 5 minute job.
