What I'm trying to do is listen to the radio in the garage (or elsewhere) with the car door open and not have the chime ringing the whole time. Is it normal for the door chime to go off whenever the door is open and the key is in ignition? I recently had a new stereo installed and thought before, if the key was removed and then re-inserted, the chime would stay off and the radio would work for an hour or so. But I might be wrong.

 

with the factory stereo you can hit the power button with the key out and the stereo will play for awhile, I believe an hour, but im not sure about an after-market stereo.
