2002+ cup holder retrofit to 2001
Ok I did some research on this AFTER I bought it, and many posted that its a difficult process blah blah. In response to that, *****. Its easy.
You just need to modify the heater / AC vent duct very slightly to make it fit. Specifically you need to trim the side rails and take some length off it and notch the centre. Piece of cake.

Seems like a good retrofit, considered it on my 00 Cab; but those high cupholders over electronic components.... could be a disaster.
My 03 Turbo has them; I don't use them.
If you do have a liquid up there and decide to put the GO pedal into action.... be warned.

The service history for my car shows a full replacement of the HVAC component at about the one year mark. I have always wondered about the possible complicity of the cupholders in that crime...

Stop arsing about and get a cheapo plastic one from auto zone for under $10. They slide down between the passenger seat and the console. Holds two cups a cell phone & garage opener. Cups stay where they are unless the car turns over. Thats unlikely the way they stick to the corners. Covers the ash tray if you have one which is a good thing as you shouldn't be smoking in a 911 anyway. Looks like crap but it works fine. lol.

May do one day.. But I don't mind it being there. The cup holder covers it anyway. Or part of it. Now I can reverse the cup holder so the ash tray can be used for holding other things like coins and toll road tickets if needed. I don't like burning bridges if thats not really necessary. I could use the centre consul glove box but I find that hard to see into as it is a little behind me for feeling about for coins and tickets. So the ash tray will stay for a while longer I think. I found a nice use for the cig lighter socket. The radar and the GPS double plug which also takes 2 USB ports. Thanks anyway.

Need some help folks. I'm trying to replace my 2002 911 cup holder. Instructions state to pull the horse collar which I have done then to pull the AC vent...push down on two taps inside the vent on top and pull the vent out. Well...I cannot find the tabs or clips or whatever they are. Can anyone assist? Are they on top of the AC vent or inside it?

If you don't mind having a plastic drinks tray stuffed between the seats, you probably don't worry about the ashtray.
Hurdi, I do appreciate the straightforward approach you take toward solving problems. Drink holder? Fixed it.

I find the Porsche in-dash cup holders are great for cappuccinos. Not so good for bigger drinks.
These guys sell a cool cup holder: http://www.sound-in-motion.com/insta...ail.html?id=16
but it only works for certain sized cups...
