Tim's odd Question of the day: Wrong DME in car...what happens
Anyone know what would happen if you put the wrong part number DME in the car?
I am HOPING it just would not start
I have the correct DME part number if we need a correct replacement.
Some indy shops have zero idea what they are doing.

The PN of what I was told needs to go in the 2002 996 Cab is 99661860400 (this was from Porsche)
His indy put one in and it is not running right and the indy can't seem to program it right. He has obviously had it with this goof ball.
It is probably going to need to go to the dealer. We are trying to work that out now. If it did not start with the wrong part number that would tell us that at least it has the right one just the wrong programming.

From what I have found here there is not. As the car starts and runs. Needless to say it is going to Porsche for further diags. The gentleman selling the car is in the Navy and when he came home it would not fire. Just crank. Had it towed to an indy shop and they replaced the immobilizer and DME with a used unit from Ebay. It was still not running correctly. The indy had no idea how to fix. I want it checked out by Porsche as part of the PPI. He will fix what is wrong but we were trying to trouble shoot if the indy just put in the wrong ECU or what. Heck it could be a bad MAF. But Porsche will figure it out.
