I don't know the exact process in CA but how would the shop know what a 996 exhaust looks like in stock form? The catalytics are still there and they provide the same functionality as the stock versions.
In fact I had to get mine inspected here in North Carolina right after I installed them. It came back just as clean as the stock cats did.
For the OP you may want to call Fabspeed and ask them as I'm sure they have experience with this same scenario.

California is broke, like the rest of the country. Doesn't matter if the 200 cats put out 0 emissions, if the inspector puts his hat up under the back & anything that doesn't look stock, NOW has to have a C.A.R.B. stamp on it. It is not about emissions anymore, it is about money. Fabspeed & the rest of aftermarket have to pay mega bucks for this stamp on thier products and so far none of them are doing it. Can't say i blame them. I would luv to hear feedback from any vendor out there in regards to this "crap" and if anything can or is being done about it. My smog guy told me if applies to mufflers as well. WTF!!!

sorry, was typing fast & hit the send button. I was told u can ask to go to the "smog referee" but the answer is going to be the same. Pass or fail emissions doesn't count...anything aftermarket from the engine to the tail pipe has to be stamped "C.A.R.B"
