You guys have really boiled it down for me - I am in the same spot - the inside of the 4S is loaded and nice - the 997 is entry level and a bit worn - and the S has 20k less miles on it and the clutch has already been done. I am really leaning towards the 4S

They are both excellent. Personally, I'd pick the 996 C4S. If the 997 under consideration were a C2S and it was 2009+, then I'd go that way.
